Being sick isn't fair

I have been on this weight loss journey for almost five years now. I've lost 100lbs and have accomplish things I never thought I would, running a 5k, swimming over 6miles, bench pressing my own weight.

It's been a long hard journey, but so worth it. However, there are some moments when life throws you a curve ball. I spent 2013 battling a plateau, only losing a total of 1 pound for the year. It was a struggle to not give up, but I pushed myself to learn more about my abilities and not my obstacles.

We are only two and a half weeks in to 2014 and I've already lost 15lbs. Here's the issues though, I have been sick for over a month. I question whether I should count this loss as a win. I've over come that blasted plateau ten fold, but yet I've barely been able to actually workout to do it.

I once read that a person on a weight loss journey can't count being sick and the weight loss from it as a win. That it's not playing fair!?!?!

So I question how is it not fair? Our body is being destroyed and we are fighting with all our energy to make it through the day. Does it truly matter how we loss the weight? Yes there is a healthy way of going about it, but illness is a part of life. It's our bodies way of fighting.

Think about it, our immune system is in over drive making white blood cells to fight the virus or bacteria. Other body parts are flushing out the immune system to help whip out the dead white blood cells. Alright there is a whole scientific way to approach this, but I'm not a scientist.

Some may say that because you are likely to gain it all back that's why we should count it. I will have it put down in the record books, I lost 20 lbs. after having my tonsils removed in 2012. Never gained it back! I just kept losing afterwards.

It's not about what's healthy and what's not, it's about how we care for our bodies once it's done and over with. Once you get better, once you are given the clear from your doctor, are you going to go back to your old habits? Are you going to sit there and not workout?

I know personally I won't. I'm going to head back to the gym, heck I'm trying to do small workouts now to keep my mind from driving me crazy. I listen to my body, if it says I can't lift 10 lbs. I don't! It's mental game sometimes.

So I think it's fair to count the loss as a win! After all our bodies are working out, just not in a gym setting.

If your sick, let your body heal. Don't push yourself to drive to the gym, sleep those extra hours, and just let your body do its thing.

A new year A new Me

Welcome to 2014!

As we all start to deploy resolutions I hope everyone had a great holiday season.

I have never really had resolutions as each day is the chance to start over, no need to wait until the new year.

Last year I struggled with hitting a plateau, but ended the year less then what I started the year off with by 1 lb. So I don't see last year that much of a fail because I can bench press my weight, started running again and swim on a regular basis more miles each session.

My goal for 2014 is to push my limits even more. If I loss more weight great, but I'm not changing my life style because of being disappointed or upset.

I will keep you updated on this journey as much as possible and wish you all good luck on whatever your weight loss journey is for 2014.
